kearl oil sands project
Located 70 km north of For McMurray, AB, the Kearl oil sands project is jointly owned by Imperial and ExxonMobil Canada.
CAPULTEC was hired by Thermon Canada to provide Project Management services for the design and engineering of electric heat trace, and resource management to support all project activities.
CAPULTEC was responsible for overall project management and:
- Managing a satellite design/engineering office in Oakville, ON and Calgary, AB,
- Providing and managing resources (70 FTE) to support project deliverables, and
- Training, coaching and providing technical expertise
As a solutions provider, CAPULTEC created an ‘intelligent’ circuit assignment database system to efficiently managing large volumes of information. Using Lean strategies, CAPULTEC streamlined design processes and realized a 54% increase in productivity, and 27% decrease in quality defects. As a result, CAPULTEC successfully delivered the project on schedule and within budget.

CAPULTEC was hired to provide resources to support CAD activities for the Kearl Oil Sands Project. Personnel experienced with MicroStation were procured and managed to provide solutions for schedule recovery to support AMEC in delivering project commitments to their customer.

Responsible for establishing PMO governance structure for North America, APAC and EMEA. Development and deployment of procedures and standards for project management and project controls. Created project dashboard reports using EVM techniques to identify variances based on plan and actual.
ProTracE Engineering
Developed corporate operational procedures, policies and standards to support engineering and project management services and solutions. Managed resource infrastructure to support core business activities.
